About The Card
The Current Build Visa® Credit Card is designed for people who are new to credit or rebuilding their history. Unlike traditional secured cards that lock up a deposit, your credit line is backed by the funds in your Current account. There’s no credit check to apply, and every purchase is automatically paid from your balance, so you never carry debt or pay interest. On-time payments are reported to the credit bureaus, giving you a safe and simple way to establish or improve your credit score without the usual risks of a credit card.
Because the card is fully integrated into the Current app, there’s no separate account to manage. You’ll also benefit from features of your Current account like early paycheck access, fee-free overdraft, and even the chance to earn points on everyday purchases when you set up direct deposit. Together, the card and account create a seamless system that makes credit-building straightforward and stress-free.
Pros
From the Card:
- No Fees & No Interest: No annual or monthly fees and no interest charges. Each purchase is automatically covered by your Current account balance and paid in full each month, making credit-building essentially cost-free if you use it responsibly.
- No Credit Check: Approval doesn’t require a hard pull, so your credit score won’t be impacted. A strong option for those with little or no credit history.
- No Minimum Deposit: Unlike traditional secured cards, you don’t need to lock away cash. Your Current account balance sets your spending limit.
- Safe Credit Building: Purchases are moved into a reserved fund and auto-paid, preventing overspending and ensuring on-time payments. Activity is reported to the credit bureaus, helping you build credit without taking on debt.
From the Current Account:
- Integrated Banking Perks: Because the card is tied to your Current account, you also get modern banking benefits like fee-free overdraft, early paycheck access, and the ability to earn points on dining and groceries if you set up direct deposit.
Cons
From the Card:
- Limited Rewards: No sign-up bonus and only modest points on dining and groceries with direct deposit. Not built for rewards seekers.
- No Upgrade Path: The card won’t convert to an unsecured product, and your limit can’t grow beyond the balance in your account. To move up, you’ll eventually need another card.
- Credit Reporting is limited: Currently reports to TransUnion, with plans to add Experian and Equifax.
From the Current Account:
- Travel and Cash Drawbacks: Foreign purchases come with fees, out-of-network ATM withdrawals cost extra, and late payments may trigger penalties. This makes it better suited for everyday domestic use than frequent travel or large cash needs.
- ATM Access: Free only at Allpoint® ATMs; using other machines comes with a withdrawal fee.
Is this card for me?
The Current Build Visa® Credit Card is a strong fit if you’re just starting out with credit or working to rebuild. It removes the barriers of traditional secured cards—no upfront deposit, no credit check, and no interest—while giving you a safe way to show positive payment history. If you value simple, app-based banking with perks like early paycheck access and fee-free overdraft, this card offers a low-risk path to build credit alongside everyday financial convenience. If you’re after big rewards, premium travel perks, or a card that grows with you over time, this may not be the right fit.
